Planning Permission for Loft Conversions – What You Need to Know
In most cases, loft conversions fall under Permitted Development (PD) rights, meaning formal planning permission isn’t usually required – as long as your design stays within certain guidelines.
However, if you’re planning to extend beyond the limits and conditions of PD, or if your property is listed or located within a conservation area, you will need to apply for planning permission. You’ll also need planning consent if your project involves altering the roof height or shape – for example, raising the roof to gain additional headroom.
Why Us
A Stress-Free Process, From Start to Finish
Rooflights and dormer windows are generally allowed under Permitted Development, but there are restrictions. They must not extend beyond the plane of the existing roof on the principal elevation, and they must not be higher than the highest part of the roof.
At Midlands Construction Services, we take care of the entire planning process for you – including all technical drawings and planning applications. Our goal is to provide a hassle-free service, allowing you to continue with your daily routine while we handle the details with minimal disruption.
